Value Added Tax (VAT) is a consumption tax added to most goods and services. In the UAE, the Federal Tax Authority (FTA) has applied a standard rate of 5% since January 1, 2018. In Saudi Arabia, the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) raised the standard rate from 5% to 15% on July 1, 2020, and it has remained at 15% since. Both rates apply to the majority of retail goods sold on Amazon.ae and Amazon.sa, though some categories carry zero-rated or exempt treatment.
For Amazon sellers, VAT usually shows up in two places: the price customers pay (which typically already includes VAT), and the cost side of your margin calculations, where you need to separate the tax-inclusive price back into its net and VAT components to see your real revenue. This calculator handles both directions - adding VAT to a net price, or extracting VAT from a price that already includes it.
What is the VAT rate in the UAE?
The UAE applies a standard VAT rate of 5% on most goods and services, introduced on January 1, 2018. Some categories - including certain exports, healthcare, and education - are zero-rated or exempt, so always confirm the treatment for your specific product before pricing it.
What is the VAT rate in Saudi Arabia?
Saudi Arabia applies a standard VAT rate of 15%, in effect since July 1, 2020 (raised from the original 5% introduced in 2018). As with the UAE, some categories have special treatment, so check current ZATCA guidance for anything outside standard retail goods.
How do I calculate VAT on a price that already includes tax?
To back VAT out of a VAT-inclusive (gross) price, divide the gross amount by 1 plus the VAT rate as a decimal (for example, divide by 1.05 for UAE’s 5%, or 1.15 for Saudi’s 15%). That gives you the net price; subtracting net from gross gives you the VAT portion. This calculator does that math for you automatically when you choose "Remove VAT from a price."
Do I need to register for VAT as an Amazon seller in the UAE or Saudi Arabia?
Registration requirements depend on your taxable turnover and residency status, and the thresholds differ between the UAE (FTA) and Saudi Arabia (ZATCA). This calculator only performs the arithmetic - it is not tax advice, so confirm your specific registration obligations with a licensed tax advisor or the relevant tax authority before filing.
Is this VAT calculator free to use?
Yes. It runs entirely in your browser, requires no signup, and nothing you enter is stored or sent anywhere.
